Is India ready to host the 2036 Olympics? PM Modi answers

Under the reign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has become a global superpower. Now, the charismatic PM has turned his focus on making the country a superpower in the field of sports.

While virtually inaugurating the seventh edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025, PM Modi said his government is committed to improving sports infrastructure to help the youth turn the country into a sporting superpower ahead of fulfilling the dream of hosting the Olympics in 2036.

Addressing the nation, the Prime Minister took the centrestage to announce the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025 in Bihar, the first time for the state. In a video address to the nation, he announced:

Increased Budget for Sports: The government has tripled its budget over the last decade, allocating over 4000 crores this year for the enhancement of infrastructure and the well-being of athletes.

Integration of Sports in our Education Policy: PM Modi has been a big supporter of including sports as a part of our education policy. His consistent efforts have now made sure that sports are a vital part of our curriculum.

Development of Infrastructure in Bihar: Bihar, which will be hosting the seventh edition of the Khelo India Youth Games 2025, will see a world-class sports city being developed on the Patna-Gaya Highway, with efforts underway to improve the facilities in villages across Bihar.

Promotion of Cultural Unity Through Sports: By encouraging participants to become ambassadors of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,’ the initiative aims to foster national unity and cultural exchange through sports.

Encouraging Local Traditions: PM Modi welcomed players in regional languages like Bhojpuri & Maithili and encouraged them to feast on local delicacies like litthi chokha and makhana, promoting cultural appreciation alongside sports.

While finishing his address to the country, the Prime Minister said his government has developed a sporting ecosystem, keeping in mind the target of hosting the Olympic Games.

“It has been a dream of every Indian to have the Olympics in India. Today, India is trying to hold the Olympics in 2036.” India will likely fight it out with countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, South Korea, Indonesia and Chile for the 2036 Olympics hosting rights.

PM Modi’s appeal to the country about adopting sports as a culture is something God of Sports also believes in. Our collaborative initiatives with House of Padel, Isle of Ball and 12Grids show how we have been encouraging sports as a culture in our country. We aim to ensure every Indian adopts sports and together we become a fit country.
