Chelsea defeats PSG 3-0, gets crowned the first-ever FIFA Club World Cup champions

In a shocking news, Chelsea thrashed European champions Paris Saint-Germain, 3-0, in the Club World Cup final, to be crowned the first-ever Club World Cup champions. The grand finale saw Cole Palmer scoring two wonderful goals and Joao Pedro scoring the third one to hit the final nail in the coffin.

Luis Enrique’s PSG were looking to add the world title to their Champions League, Ligue 1 and Coupe de France treble, but they were blown away in a remarkable first half that saw Chelsea’s Cole Palmer score two identical goals in the first 30 minutes.

Chelsea’s Joao Pedro rubbed salt into PSG’s wounds by scoring another wonderful goal in the 43rd minute to kill the match for the 2025 Champions League winners PSG.

With the Premier League giants up 3-0 by halftime, Luis Enrique’s men tried their best to catch up with only 45 minutes remaining. They made aggressive run-ins with Desire Doué and Ousmane Dembele, trying their level best to match the scoreline. But to no avail. PSG couldn’t manage to breach Chelsea’s defence with Moises Caicedo and skipper Reece James holding the fort.

The grand finale of the FIFA Club World Cup saw tempers flaring within both squads, with PSG’s João Neves receiving a red card for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair in the 84th minute. The incident occurred after he and Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella bumped as they approached the box. Neves grabbed Cucurella by his hair from behind and pulled him to the ground.

The red card was issued after a VAR review, with João Neves clearly seen pulling Cucurella’s hair.

This wasn’t the end. After the final whistle, Chelsea’s Andrey Santos was arguing with Achraf Hakimi when Pedro, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Enrique all got involved. It appeared Pedro tried to push Enrique out of the confrontation, which prompted the PSG boss to seemingly put his hands on the Brazilian’s face and cause him to go to the ground.

Meanwhile, with Chelsea becoming the inaugural champions of the FIFA Club World Cup, Twitteratis couldn’t control their excitement. The social media users wished and rejoiced with Chelsea’s victory.

With the FIFA Club World Cup trophy under their belt, the Premier League giants will now focus on the 2025-26 football season.

Jannik Sinner defeats Carlos Alcaraz in Wimbledon 2025 final

Sinner creates history- becomes the first Italian to be crowned the Wimbledon champion

History has been made. After lifting the Wimbledon trophy two consecutive times, Carlos Alcaraz wasn’t able to pull off the win for the third time. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner beat the defending champion, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, ending Alcaraz’s impressive run of a 24-match winning streak and his dominance at Wimbledon, where he had won 20 consecutive matches.

Sinner is the first Italian player to win a Wimbledon singles title, and he now stands as a four-time Grand Slam champion. He breaks his overall tie with an assortment of famous names, including Arthur Ashe, Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka. Perhaps most importantly, he ends his great rival’s run of five consecutive wins against him, adding a new dimension to a rivalry that seems set to decide the majority of major tournaments in the near future.

Winning his fifth overall Grand Slam, Sinner was absolutely ecstatic after the win. He was quoted as saying, “Hello everyone. First of all, I would like to start with Carlos, again, amazing tournament but mostly thank you for the player you are.”

He further added, “It’s so difficult to play against you but we have, as you said, an amazing relationship off the court, and on the court we just try to build up and for doing that we need the best teams in the world and also you have the best team. So keep going, keep pushing, you are going to hold many, many times this trophy, you have already two, so!”

The match began with both players exchanging breaks early, but Alcaraz found his rhythm first. Despite Sinner taking an early 4-2 lead, the Spanish champion produced some breathtaking tennis to secure a double break. Alcaraz dominated the longer rallies, creating difficult angles that troubled Sinner throughout the set.

The Italian, who uses a HEAD Speed Pro 2024 Tennis Racquet, responded with determination, securing an early break that proved decisive. While Alcaraz attempted to replicate his first-set rally dominance, Sinner began winning the crucial long exchanges. This momentum shift marked the turning point of the match.

Both players remained focused, but Alcaraz’s vulnerability on crucial points became apparent. A late break in the set allowed Sinner to take a 2-1 lead, with the Italian capitalizing on key moments while maintaining his improved form from the second set.

Sinner maintained his dominance, making Alcaraz work for every point regardless of who was serving. The Italian’s tactical clarity and technical precision proved overwhelming. He served for the championship at 5-4 and clinched his historic first Wimbledon title, becoming the first Italian man to win the tournament.

Nike vs Adidas: The war erupts thanks to Team India captain Shubman Gill

Team India skipper Shubman Gill was trending across all social media platforms yesterday. After winning a historic Test match against England at Edgbaston for the first time, Shubman Gill made heads turn with one single moment.

During the fourth day of play, Team India were going at a brisk pace with the scoreboard reading 427/6 declared when Gill came to the dressing room and signalled his teammates that they were declaring their second innings.

It wasn’t just the timing of the declaration that drew attention; it was what he was wearing when he made it.

Wearing a black Nike vest, he called in his teammates from the field. The sight raised eyebrows, given that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has an exclusive sponsorship agreement with Adidas, Nike’s direct competitor, running until March 2028. According to the deal, India’s cricket kits, across the men’s and women’s teams and across all age groups, will be sponsored by Adidas.

As images of Gill’s Nike-clad declaration circulated online, fans quickly began to question whether the young captain may have inadvertently breached the BCCI’s commercial obligations. The Nike logo, clearly visible across his chest, sparked a wave of social media reactions, some critical, others tongue-in-cheek, but all noting the implications.

The BCCI has not issued an official statement yet on the vest incident, but observers believe the matter could escalate internally due to sponsorship sensitivities.

Besides the official apparel breach, the Test match will be remembered for the multiple records broken by Team India.

1-7 India’s win-loss record in Test matches at Edgbaston. They had lost seven of their first eight games (with one draw) before beating England for the first time at the venue.

336 India’s margin of victory at Edgbaston is their biggest by runs away from home. Their previous biggest was a 318-run victory against the West Indies at North Sound in 2019.

10 for 187 Akash Deep’s match figures at Edgbaston are the best for India in a men’s Test in England. Chetan Sharma, also at Edgbaston in 1986, is the only other Indian with a ten-for in England.

17 Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj’s tally of wickets at Edgbaston is the joint highest by India’s new-ball bowlers in a Test. Irfan Pathan and Zaheer Khan against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2005, and Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in 2019, also took 17 wickets.

Shubman Gill (269+161) is now the first to achieve a 250+ & a 150+ in a Test match.

However, he is the 2nd to do so in FC cricket, after Dhruv Shorey (252*+150*), who achieved this feat for Delhi against Assam at Guwahati in December 2022 in the Ranji Trophy.

Shubman Gill’s aggregate of 430 runs is the second-highest in a Test match. The highest being England’s Graham Gooch, who smashed 456 runs in a Test against India at Lord’s in 1990.

Shubman Gill has now become the first Indian to aggregate 350+ runs in a Test match! Additionally, he is the first Indian captain to aggregate 300+ runs in a Test match.

Top Football Player Transfers in 2025

The 2025 football transfer window is open. And you must have seen many big players making the switch either for a hefty pay or more game time.

From Florian Wirtz moving to Anfield to Dean Huijsen deciding to play for his dream club, Real Madrid, we have seen a lot of players making headlines during the transfer window.

Here’s a list of the top football player transfers that you need to know in 2025.

Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool)

Arne Slot’s first Premier League season went great, but he wasn’t able to replicate the magic in the UEFA Champions League. So, the man is on a mission. The Dutch manager has signed 22-year-old midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a blockbuster transfer worth an initial £100 million, with £16m in potential add-ons.

Wirtz was also of interest to the likes of Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid before, but Liverpool were the club most keen on signing him and the club he was most keen on signing for.

Wirtz, who has signed a five year deal stated, “Every time I spoke to one of the [people from] the club I felt like, ‘this is the place I want to be’ and so in the end I was really 100 per cent convinced I want to join Liverpool and it was the best choice.”

Wirtz is a record signing for Liverpool as the previous highest they ever spent on was Uruguay’s Darwin Nunez, who was signed for £85m.

Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool)

Liverpool are on a mission to defend their title. After their record-signing Wirtz, the Reds have signed striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Premier League champions put the initial fee at about £69million ($93.4m) with a further £10m possible in add-ons. Their German counterparts report the top figure could stretch to €93million (£79m; $107m) if the extras are achieved.

Ekitike, who has signed a six-year contract at Liverpool, had a breakout campaign in 2024-25, scoring 15 Bundesliga goals in 33 appearances. He also struck four times as Frankfurt reached the quarterfinals of the Europa League.

Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford to Manchester United)

After weeks of ongoing discussions, Manchester United have finally landed their priority target. Former Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo has decided to make the switch to Manchester United for a fee of £65m rising to £71m with add-ons.

The Camerron international hit new heights in the 2024-25 league season, finishing with a career-high 20 goals to help Brentford to a solid 10th-place finish in the Premier League. Only Mohamed Salah (29), Alexander Isak (23) and Erling Haaland (22) scored more league goals.

The versatile Mbeumo thrived on the right wing and also impressed as a centre-forward, proving indispensable for Brentford by starting every league game last season.

He joined the London club from Ligue 2 side Troyes in 2019 and made 242 appearances, scoring 70 goals and providing 51 assists.

Matheus Cunha (Wolverhampton Wolves to Manchester United)

Manchester United are in serious trouble. After finishing in the 15th position in the Premier League, the English club are making moves really fast. And the first one among them is the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wolves.

The Brazilian forward signed a new contract with Wolves in February, which was merely the precursor to a big summer move for the attacker.

A release clause worth £62.5m was added to his contract, which United wasted no time in activating at the earliest opportunity in June.

Cunha has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option of an extra year. He will be expected to play as one of two attacking midfielders in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.

Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth to Real Madrid)

What is a transfer window without Real Madrid? After signing English defender Trent Alexander-Arnold for free, the Spanish giants have decided to bring Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth to Santiago Bernabeu.

Huijsen has completed a £50m move to Madrid, which takes him back to the country he grew up in.

Huijsen’s time in the Premier League was short and sweet after Bournemouth bought him from Juventus for £12.8m last summer, following a loan spell at Roma.

Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting to Arsenal)

Arsenal have signed Sweden forward Viktor Gyokeres, bringing an end to the Premier League club’s years-long search for a prolific goalscorer.

Gyokeres completed a move from Sporting Lisbon worth a reported 63 million pounds ($85m) and signed a five-year contract.

The 27-year-old striker joins Arsenal after establishing himself after two outstanding seasons in Portugal, in which he fired Lisbon to back-to-back league titles with 97 goals, including 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 season, outscoring the likes of superstars Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah.

Tijjani Reijnders (AC Milan to Manchester City)

Pep Guardiola had a torrid season. After failing to lift any silverware during the 2024-25 season, Guardiola has decided to bolster his squad with some more quality.

Serie A’s best midfielder in 2024/25, Tijjani Reijnders, has made a move from AC Milan to Manchester City for a fee of £46.6m rising to £59.2m with add-ons.

The midfielder has signed a five-year contract with City and wants to work closely with Guardiola and bring more laurels for the English club.

Franco Mastantuono (River Plate to Real Madrid)

Real Madrid is really on a signing spree. After getting the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, the Spanish giants have also secured the signing of 18-year-old Franco Mastantuono.

Having forged a reputation as one of South American football’s top prospects, Mastantuono recently became Argentina’s youngest ever debutant.

Real Madrid were in no mood to see him end up anywhere other than the Bernabeu, triggering a release clause in his contract worth £38.5m.

Jean-Clair Todibo ( Nice to West Ham United)

After having a disastrous Premier League season, West Ham United seem all set to push above their weight this season. The club have made their loan signing Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice permanent.

During the 2024-25 season, Todibo played 29 times for West Ham during his loan spell, and they have had to pay the equivalent of €40m to keep him at the London Stadium.

Rayan Ait-Nouri (Wolverhampton Wolves to Manchester City)

After spending five years at Wolves, Rayan Ait-Nouri has made the move to Premier League giants Manchester City.

The 24-year-old Algerian international has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium after the clubs agreed a fee of £31m.

“I am incredibly happy and honoured to have joined Manchester City. City are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the chance to play for the club is a dream come true,” Aït-Nouri said. “I am also so excited about working with and learning from Pep [Guardiola] and his coaching team and getting to train and play alongside such a world-class group of players.

Rayan Cherki (Lyon to Manchester City)

Another day, another Manchester City signing. Manchester City have completed the signing of Rayan Cherki from Lyon for a transfer fee reported to be around €36m (£30.5m) plus add-ons.

The 21-year-old, who has made almost 200 appearances for Lyon and earned two France caps, has signed a contract until 2030.

“This is a dream for me,” said Cherki after completing his move. “To be joining a club like Manchester City and have the opportunity to make the next step in my career here is something very, very special.”

Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich to Tottenham Hotspur)

After signing Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich, Spurs’ new manager Thomas Frank made the move permanent for a fee worth £29.8m.

During the 2024-25 season, Tel helped Tottenham win their first major silverware in 17 years by lifting the 2024-25 Europa League against Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The French forward has signed a contract with Spurs for seven years until 2031 to stay in north London.

Liam Delap (Ipswich Town to Chelsea)

The new era at Chelsea has begun fantastically. After managing a top-four finish during the 2024-25 Premier League season, Chelsea has decided to bolster their squad to add more quality and depth to their squad.

The English club have strengthened their attack by completing the £30m signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

Delap, who has signed a six-year deal, chose to join Chelsea after receiving pitches from Everton, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.

“I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach,” Delap told Chelsea’s website. “It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.”

Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool)

Liverpool has started their rebuilding phase. After letting Trent Alexander-Arnold go for free, the English club have secured the services of record-breaking transfer Florian Wirtz and Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong for a fee worth £29.5m.

Known for his pace, direct running, dribbling ability and work rate, he is widely regarded as one of the best wing-backs in the world.

The former Bayer Leverkusen player has signed a six-year deal that keeps him at Anfield until 2030. At Liverpool, Frimpong will join his Dutch friends, including the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch.

Estevao Willian (Palmeiras to Chelsea)

Back in June 2024, Chelsea announced an agreement to sign Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian from Palmeiras. The English club have finally put pen to paper by securing the Brazilian’s services for a fee worth £28.6m, plus add-ons that would take the price up to £52m.

The 17-year-old has already built a strong reputation in South America as one of the most exciting talents around due to his skilful dribbling and electric pace, causing defences plenty of problems in his breakout season in senior football.

Estevao appeared for 62 games at Palmeiras, scoring 18 goals. At Palmeiras, Estevao was the club’s fourth youngest player when he debuted during the 2023-24 season.

Jobe Bellingham (Sunderland to Borussia Dortmund)

Following the footsteps of his elder brother, Jobe Bellingham has made the big switch. The 17-year-old has decided to move from Sunderland to German club Borussia Dortmund for a fee worth around £27m, plus add-ons.

Bellingham, who joined Sunderland from Birmingham for £1.5m in the summer of 2023, is following in the footsteps of his older brother Jude, the England international who spent three seasons with Dortmund before moving to Real Madrid.

Confirming his signing, Bellingham Jr. stated, “I’m very happy to be a Borussia Dortmund player now and to fight for titles together with this great club. I want to play my part in celebrating success with these great fans here and will work on myself and with the team every day. And I’m very happy that I’ll be wearing the black and yellow jersey at the Fifa Club World Cup.”

Joan Garcia (Espanyol to Barcelona)

The La Liga champions have brought in a new stopper from their cross-city rivals. Espanyol’s Joan Garcia has signed a six-year deal with Barcelona as competition for Marc-André ter Stegen.

Garcia played in all 38 of Espanyol’s La Liga games last season after helping them win promotion to the Spanish top flight the year before.

Garcia’s €25m release clause was activated to facilitate the first transfer of his professional career, with a big future in store at Barcelona.

Luis Henrique (Marseille to Inter Milan)

Inter’s loss to PSG at the finals of the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League has made them go back to the drawing board and find the missing chinks in their armour.

One such missing chink is getting a quality winger. Luis Henrique, the Brazilian winger, has made the switch from Marseille to Inter Milan for a fee worth £19.4m, plus add-ons.

Henrique, a freshly signed Inter talent, will be appearing for the Serie A giants at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Charalampos Kostoulas (Olympiacos to Brighton)

Charalampos Kostoulas (Olympiacos to Brighton)

Premier League’s most improved club, Brighton & Hove Albion, have officially secured the signing of Charalampos Kostoulas from Greek champions Olympiacos.

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler said, “Charalampos is an outstanding young player and we’re delighted he is coming to Brighton. He wants to play in the Premier League and we are excited about what he can bring to the team”.

The 18-year-old forward has signed a five-year contract worth £29.78m that will run up to 2030.

Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen to Bayern Munich)

The defending champions Bayern Munich look to bolster their squad with the signing of 29-year-old centre back Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen.

Tah won the title with Leverkusen two seasons ago and now joins a team that dethroned his former employers as champions. Speaking about his move, the German centre back stated, “I feel great about joining this club, and it feels amazing to be here in America. I haven’t had much time to settle in, but the Club World Cup has really helped”.

The defender has signed a four-year contract with the club managed by former Premier League champion Vincent Kompany.

Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich to Galatasaray)

Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray have secured the services of German winger Leroy Sane from Bayern Munich. The Turkish club have signed Sane on a three-year contract valid until 2028.

Additionally, Galatasaray said that Sané would be paid a guaranteed annual salary of €9 million ($10.4 million) per season, along with a net loyalty bonus of €3 million ($3.5 million) per season. He will officially join Galatasaray on July 1 as a free agent, with his Bayern deal expiring at the end of June.

Nuno Tavares (Arsenal to Lazio)

Nuno Tavares has finalized a permanent transfer from Arsenal to Lazio, as announced by Arsenal.com. The transfer was initially a loan move with an obligation to buy, which Lazio has now activated.

Tavares, who spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Lazio, made 30 appearances in all competitions. He assisted nine times, eight of which came in the first 10 league games.

With the permanent transfer, Arsenal will receive a transfer fee for Tavares, although the exact amount hasn’t been specified. Also, reports suggest Arsenal retains a sell-on clause, meaning they will receive a percentage of any future transfer fee Lazio gets for Tavares.

Top Features to Look for in a Beginner Tennis Racket

Choosing the right tennis racket as a beginner is more than just picking something lightweight and colorful — it’s your first step into a sport that can stay with you for a lifetime. The right racket helps develop proper technique, reduces mishits, and ensures you enjoy every rally from the very beginning.

This comprehensive guide explores the top features to consider when selecting your first racket. It’s written with an expert yet conversational tone — think of it like a coach walking you through your options — and includes some great beginner-friendly choices from God of Sports, India’s trusted destination for authentic sports gear.

Tennis Racket for Beginner

Why Choosing the Right Racket Matters

Imagine trying to learn guitar with strings that are too tight or a body that doesn’t fit your hands — that’s what using the wrong racket can feel like in tennis. Your racket becomes an extension of your arm and, in many ways, your skill.

The right beginner racket:

  • Makes learning strokes easier
  • Reduces the chances of injury
  • Encourages consistent play
  • Builds confidence with every shot

Rather than going for the flashiest design or the brand your favorite player uses, understanding your needs is key.

Understanding the Learning Curve

Beginners face a unique learning curve. Initial practices often include mishits, fatigue, and inconsistent strokes. A racket that suits your level smoothens this curve. The feel in your hand, the way it responds when the ball hits the strings, and the confidence it gives you to swing without fear of errors — all contribute to how quickly you enjoy and improve at the game.

Weight and Balance: Your Starting Feel

Weight

Beginner rackets generally fall in the 260–290 grams (9.2–10.2 oz) range. This sweet spot helps you swing with ease and develop good mechanics without overexerting your arm. For a lightweight and maneuverable option, consider the HEAD MX Attitude Supreme. If you’re looking for a slightly head-heavy feel, the Yonex EZONE Ace could be a great choice.

Too heavy? You’ll tire quickly. Too light? You may feel a lack of stability. Balance is everything — in the racket and in your form.

Weight and Balance: Your Starting Feel of Tennis Racket

Balance

Racket balance can feel subtle at first, but has a big impact:

  • Head-heavy: Adds power, good for players who stay back on the baseline.
  • Head-light: Easier to maneuver, great for net players and doubles.
  • Even balance: The best of both worlds — great for learning all-around play.

Most beginner rackets tend to favor even or slightly head-heavy setups to offer forgiveness on off-center hits.

Head Size: Sweet Spot for Sweet Shots

The bigger the head, the more forgiving the frame. If you’re just starting, consider rackets with an oversize head (100–110 in²) to make your sweet spot larger and reduce mishits. The HEAD Ti Radical Elite is a perfect option for beginners, thanks to its oversize head and larger sweet spot. This racket ensures fewer mishits and better performance on the court.

  • Oversize (100–110 in²): Big sweet spot, easy power, fewer mishits.
  • Midsize (85–99 in²): Precision-focused — best for experienced players.

Beginner Tip: Go for 100–105 in². It offers a perfect mix of control and forgiveness so you’ll enjoy rallies instead of getting frustrated by errors.

Frame Shape & Sweet Spot Positioning

Some rackets have elongated heads or teardrop shapes that shift the sweet spot slightly. For beginners, rackets with traditional round or oval shapes are easier to control and offer predictable performance.

String Pattern: Your Racket’s Personality

The arrangement of strings isn’t just a visual grid — it affects how the ball reacts.

  • Open (16×19 or 16×18): Adds spin, more power, comfortable feel — beginner favorite.
  • Dense (18×20): Offers control, but harder for beginners to generate spin.

Beginners should look for a 16×19 string pattern, widely used for its balance of control and pop.

Grip Size: Fit for Your Hand of Tennis Racket

Playing with the wrong grip is like wearing shoes a size too small.

How to choose the right grip size:

  • Hold the racket with a standard handshake grip.
  • Slide your index finger of the other hand between your palm and fingers.
  • If it fits snugly, that’s your size.

Typical grip sizes:

  • Women: 4 1/4″ (Grip Size 2)
  • Men: 4 3/8″ (Grip Size 3)

Still unsure? Start slightly smaller — you can always add an overgrip.

Material and Texture of Grips

Grips can vary in texture and cushioning. Some are tacky to provide hold, others more cushioned for comfort. Beginners might prefer cushioned grips to reduce vibrations and ease hand fatigue.

Choosing the right grip size ensures comfort and control. If you’re looking for a racket with great grip options, the Wilson Blade Feel Team 103 is perfect, offering multiple grip sizes to ensure the perfect fit.

Frame Stiffness & Material: Feel the Feedback

Material

Modern rackets are crafted for performance and comfort. Graphite or carbon composite frames are the most beginner-friendly — light, durable, and responsive.

For a comfortable and forgiving experience, the HEAD MX Attitude Elite features a carbon composite frame, perfect for beginner players who need durability and responsiveness without sacrificing comfort.

Avoid aluminum frames for adults. They’re heavy and transmit more vibration.

Material of Tennis Rackets

Stiffness (RA Rating)

  • RA 65–70: The golden zone for beginners — a balance of power and comfort.
  • RA 70+: Stiff and powerful but may lead to arm fatigue.
  • RA <65: Comfortable but lacks power.

Ask your coach or check specs online before purchasing.

Length & Swing Style Compatibility

Length

  • Standard (27 inches): The norm — easy to control and well-balanced.
  • Extended (27.5–28 inches): More reach and power, but tougher to maneuver.

Stick to 27 inches to start. You’ll thank yourself when it comes to timing your swing.

Length & Swing Style Compatibility of Tennis Rackets

Swing Style

  • Slower, compact swings: Go for lightweight rackets with low to mid swing weight.
  • Aggressive baseline play: A slightly head-heavy racket may help.
  • Volleys and net play: Choose a head-light racket for faster reaction.

Swing Weight: The Secret Sauce of Feel

Swing weight is a measurement of how heavy a racket feels while swinging it. It combines static weight and how that weight is distributed.

  • Low (290–310): Quick, easy to maneuver — great for new players.
  • Mid (310–325): Balanced — most beginner rackets fall here.
  • High (325+): Powerful but demanding — not ideal for learners.

Choosing a swing weight in the 290–325 range is best for muscle memory development, comfort, and shot control.

Bonus: Beginner Tennis Drills to Pair with Your New Racket

Choosing a good racket is step one. Using it right is the next. Here are some beginner drills:

  • Shadow Swings: Practice your forehand and backhand swings without hitting a ball. Focus on technique and motion.
  • Wall Rally: Hit against a wall with a low-compression ball. It improves timing and consistency.
  • Target Practice: Place cones on court to aim your shots. Helps improve control.
  • Footwork Ladder: Use an agility ladder to improve court movement.

Pairing your new racket with structured practice builds muscle memory quickly.

Expert Racket Maintenance Tips

Once you’ve chosen the right beginner racket, it’s important to know how to care for it. A well-maintained racket not only lasts longer but also performs more consistently over time.

1. Store it Right

Avoid leaving your racket in extremely hot or cold environments — like a car on a sunny day. Drastic temperature changes can weaken the frame and affect string tension.

2. Replace Strings Periodically

Strings lose tension with time, even if unused. Beginners should restring every 3–6 months depending on play frequency. If you start noticing less pop or control, it’s likely time.

Why Choosing the Right Racket Matters

3. Replace Overgrips

Overgrips absorb sweat and wear out faster than you’d expect. Replace them once they lose tackiness, start peeling, or feel hard.

4. Use a Dampener if Needed

If you feel excessive vibration, add a vibration dampener near the bottom cross-strings. It doesn’t affect performance drastically but can improve feel.

5. Clean Gently

Wipe the frame with a soft cloth. Don’t use alcohol or harsh chemicals that may damage paint or synthetic materials.

Tennis Myths Beginners Should Ignore

“Expensive rackets make you better.”

Not true. A racket suited to your level, regardless of price, is what helps you improve. Many pro-level rackets are hard to control for beginners.

“Light rackets are always better.”

Too light and your shots may lack control. Swing weight and balance matter more than static weight alone.

“All string patterns are the same.”

They’re not. Open string patterns help generate spin and add power, which can really benefit a beginner’s learning curve.

“Professional models are the best.”

Pro rackets are usually heavier, stiffer, and strung to specific tension. Beginner rackets prioritize comfort and forgiveness.

Deepika Padukone celebrates her father’s 70th birthday; plans to expand the Padukone School of Badminton to more cities

Amid the controversy surrounding her upcoming movie “Spirit”, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has announced the expansion of “Padukone School of Badminton”. The Om Shanti Om star made the announcement to celebrate her father, legendary badminton player Prakash Padukone’s 70th birthday.

Padukone School of Badminton is expanding to 75 centres a year, targeting 250 centres by 2027 to champion the cause of ‘badminton for all’. The Badminton School has already established over 75 grassroots coaching centres across 18 Indian cities – including Bengaluru, NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Jaipur, Pune, Nashik, Mysuru, Panipat, Dehradun, Udaipur, Coimbatore, Sangli, and Surat – within its first year of operations.

Announcing the news on Instagram, Deepika wrote,” As someone who grew up playing badminton, I’ve experienced firsthand how much this sport can shape one’s life – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Through Padukone School of Badminton(PSB), we hope to bring the joy and discipline of Badminton to people from all walks of life, and build a generation that is healthier, more focused, and inspired by sport”.

Prakash Padukone, Padma Shri awardee & PSB’s Mentor & Advisor, added, “Sport is an integral part of growing up – it instils discipline, resilience, and a winning mindset that extends well beyond the court. With PSB, our goal is to make quality coaching accessible and affordable, nurture talent from the grassroots, and set a strong foundation for the future of Indian badminton.”

Padukone School of Badminton, aka PSB, partners with schools, institutions and existing venues to set up grassroots academies that feed into its flagship Training Program at the 3 High-Performance Centres of Excellence in Bengaluru. With over 100 coaches trained under a structured certification program and access to cutting-edge facilities, PSB’s coaching system ensures consistency, quality, and the ability to identify and nurture future champions.

On the work front, Deepika Padukone will be next seen in Atlee’s latest venture, headlined by Allu Arjun, tentatively titled AA22xA6. Besides this pan-India film, Deepika will feature in the second part of Prabhas’ starrer Kalki 2898 AD, Shah Rukh Khan’s mega-ensemble King and YRF’s Tiger vs Pathaan.

We, as the team at God of Sports, appreciate this initiative and strongly align with the thought leadership and goals we strive for—not just as equipment sellers, but as a bridge between players and the game.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal defeats young and thriving Spain to lift the 2025 UEFA Nations League Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo has done it again. The Portugal superstar has defeated the Spain national team in the 2025 UEFA Nations League final to lift the trophy for a second time. The 2016 Euro champions thwarted Spain’s defence in penalties (5-3) to lift the cup.

The match billed as a matchup between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lamine Yamal saw Spain take an early lead with Martin Zubimendi’s fantastic goal in the 21st minute. However, Portugal didn’t let the lead stay for much as they counter-attacked to equal the scoreline with Nuno Mendes’ goal in the 26th minute.

Just on the verge of the half-time break, Spain took the lead again with Mikel Oyarzabal getting on the score sheet. With the first half done and the score reading 2-1 in favour of Spain, it felt that the Unai Simón-led team would be taking the trophy home. However, Cristiano Ronaldo had other plans. The all-time highest goal scorer made a deft touch in the 61st minute to equal the scores again.

For the remaining 30 minutes of normal time, both teams tried to go past their respective opposition’s defence. However, no one succeeded. The case remained the same in extra time as well.

After 120 minutes of game time, the winner couldn’t be determined. And penalties had to be taken to get the winner of the 2025 Nations League. Portugal went past the Simon on all five chances they had, while Spain’s Alvaro Morata missed his penalty kick to give Portugal their second Nations League victory (5-3).

Ronaldo, who had to be substituted in the 88th minute due to a muscle strain, ran onto the pitch to celebrate before bursting into tears having clinched his third international trophy — a second Nations League and the Euro 2016 title, when he also ended the game on the bench due to injury.

Defending his trophy, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz won his fifth Grand Slam tournament in as many finals. After lifting the trophy, Alcaraz stated, “I am just really, really happy to be able to make history with you in this tournament, in other tournaments; you are a huge inspiration to young kids and to me.”

Is India ready to host the 2036 Olympics? PM Modi answers

Under the reign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has become a global superpower. Now, the charismatic PM has turned his focus on making the country a superpower in the field of sports.

While virtually inaugurating the seventh edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025, PM Modi said his government is committed to improving sports infrastructure to help the youth turn the country into a sporting superpower ahead of fulfilling the dream of hosting the Olympics in 2036.

Addressing the nation, the Prime Minister took the centrestage to announce the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025 in Bihar, the first time for the state. In a video address to the nation, he announced:

Increased Budget for Sports: The government has tripled its budget over the last decade, allocating over 4000 crores this year for the enhancement of infrastructure and the well-being of athletes.

Integration of Sports in our Education Policy: PM Modi has been a big supporter of including sports as a part of our education policy. His consistent efforts have now made sure that sports are a vital part of our curriculum.

Development of Infrastructure in Bihar: Bihar, which will be hosting the seventh edition of the Khelo India Youth Games 2025, will see a world-class sports city being developed on the Patna-Gaya Highway, with efforts underway to improve the facilities in villages across Bihar.

Promotion of Cultural Unity Through Sports: By encouraging participants to become ambassadors of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,’ the initiative aims to foster national unity and cultural exchange through sports.

Encouraging Local Traditions: PM Modi welcomed players in regional languages like Bhojpuri & Maithili and encouraged them to feast on local delicacies like litthi chokha and makhana, promoting cultural appreciation alongside sports.

While finishing his address to the country, the Prime Minister said his government has developed a sporting ecosystem, keeping in mind the target of hosting the Olympic Games.

“It has been a dream of every Indian to have the Olympics in India. Today, India is trying to hold the Olympics in 2036.” India will likely fight it out with countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, South Korea, Indonesia and Chile for the 2036 Olympics hosting rights.

PM Modi’s appeal to the country about adopting sports as a culture is something God of Sports also believes in. Our collaborative initiatives with House of Padel, Isle of Ball and 12Grids show how we have been encouraging sports as a culture in our country. We aim to ensure every Indian adopts sports and together we become a fit country.
